About Calypso Monarch
Monarch's interest in music came at an early age in Sugarcity, St Kitts with many performances in his church and school before turning 10. He is considered one of the pioneers of the Junior Calypso competition, taking part in it's introduction and winning the title on 4 occassions.
His success over the years positioned him to create hits including chart busters, Saltfish Tongue, Iron Lady, Dreadlockas Jam, Backlash and Merengue Soca. These songs were performed alongside all the other top soca artists in the Caribbean,USA, Europe and Asia.
Another highlight of Monarchs career came when the BBC picked him as the lead subject in the documentary "Lost in Music", written by acclaimed author Caryl Phillips also fron St Kitts. The film depicted the young entertainers drive to make it big even, at the displeasure of his family.
Monarch migrated to Houston and later Atlanta and put his recording career on hold. This did not stop his drive to entertain and he continued to do so by hosting many famous acts in St kitts at the annual Music Festival, the International Festival in Houston and the World Party in Atlanta. Appearing on these gigs were names like Eve, Ashanti, Dru Hill, Machel Montano,Maxi Priest, Percy Sledge and Kool and the Gang.
The passion for music has picked up again and Monarch who is now based in Buenos Aires, Argentina has completed a mini CD for 2006 featuring 6 tracks.
